Dark Realm 2/12/2012 7:25:50 AM |
elven knife
Yes
combat knife of durability
Yes
seriously 1 rat then 1 bandit... |
Legion 2/12/2012 8:06:46 AM | methinks you might have unreasonable hopes for equipment after all this time with your uber-crafter. If a knife guy gets thru an adventure without breaking a weapon or two I'm always pleasantly surprised. |
Sardonic 2/26/2012 11:06:54 PM | You have completed a mission! You have been awarded 1 bonus skill point. This is aggrevating. I go out of my way to get this done, and only 1 skill point? I know it is a bonus, just a bonus, but still. |
Dragon Masters 2/27/2012 1:16:05 AM | If you get thru an adventure without breaking a weapon, thats good? I would have to say you need to actually play a new character that only has 1 weapon and dont make any money to replace it or have backups.
It is also annoying having your own party kill each other faster then the monsters do. |
Legion 2/27/2012 10:48:16 AM | I just typed up (and erased) a long post explaining durability. Instead I'll just answer your question. Yes, there are some instances where I consider it lucky to complete an adventure without a weapon break. The "knife guy" I was referencing runs higher (level 20-30) adventures and tends to use cheap knives since I find it more economical for him to use (and break) a few less valuable weapons rather than risk losing a "better" weapon with a worse durability-to-price ratio.
Go down to your local pawnshop and buy the cheapest "large knife" you can find. Then go to your local gym and find the hugest guy you can and hand him a medieval two handed battle axe. Ask him to swing it as hard as he can at your head while you stand your ground blocking it with your knife. See how many swings you can parry before the knife breaks...
On this point, your second point (about friendly-fire deaths), and everything else in the game I'd like to point out an observation I've made. When a player identifies a "problem" with the game (for example too many weapon breaks or too many friendly-fire deaths) the good players and the bad players have two very different approaches. The bad players say that the game is flawed, and suggest that the rules be changed to fit their play style. The good players look at it backward, and see their play style as flawed and adjust that to fit the game instead. Just the other day I was talking to a good player and we were talking about how we'd never let a level 1 character handle a high damage weapon such as a halberd since one bad swing could take out a party member.
If you are buying weapons that break before you can raise the cash to replace them, buy weapons with more durability-per-dollar. If you are using weapons that can kill a friend in a single unlucky shot, use a lower damage weapon or split the lower hp characters into a different group. There are usually many ways to solve a problem once you have identified it, and your ability to recognize, learn from, and correct sub-optimal playing strategies will be what turn you into a superior mythic warfare player.
This post was not meant as a criticism of any player or any idea by the way. Nor was it meant to discourage feedback, suggestions, or discussion. I wish everyone the best of luck fiding success with all the many different playing styles people employ and I always enjoy reading about new ideas and reactions to changes. |
Dragon Masters 2/27/2012 1:36:10 PM | Not saying the game is flawed. I agree that things will break after a while of abuse. I am saying when you break an item right after you equip it, and not even doing/recieving max damage, the break percentage might be a little high.
With this, some of us have to use what the game gives us, since making money isnt easy if you dont have the yeoman/spells to do so. When first learning, you dont know the little tricks such as higher crafting trade in people create an income. |
Sardonic 2/27/2012 4:09:50 PM | "Go down to your local pawnshop and buy the cheapest "large knife" you can find. Then go to your local gym and find the hugest guy you can and hand him a medieval two handed battle axe. Ask him to swing it as hard as he can at your head while you stand your ground blocking it with your knife. See how many swings you can parry before the knife breaks... " Hilarious, and a good point.

Dragon Masters 2/28/2012 12:23:00 AM | As a person with a passing idea of sword play, anyone stupid enough to try to fully block a heavy weapon with a dagger should be decapitated.
You divert the weapon away from you, not try to stop it cold.
I agree that there will be times of doing stupid things with a weapon, like hitting it on the stone floor.. |
Sardonic 2/28/2012 2:17:17 AM | *sigh* |
Dark Realm 3/2/2012 3:08:34 PM | (13) a small red demon [d5: flame dart] hits SAMURAI for 1 damage.
(13) SAMURAI's plate mail armor has been destroyed.
with resist fire 5 ....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr |
Dragon Masters 3/2/2012 11:17:53 PM | How many items can you lose from a single hit? |
Sardonic 3/3/2012 1:51:37 AM | I have lost 4 items in a single blow from a red demon. |
Dragon Masters 3/3/2012 9:08:13 AM | 3) a kobold [39% d6 : goblin pike] jabs melee fighter 3's neck for 4 damage.
(3) melee fighter 3's dried beans on a string has been destroyed.
(3) melee fighter 3's crude hide shield has been destroyed.
|
Dark Realm 3/3/2012 9:16:03 AM | yeah i do not think there is a limit to what can be lost to spell effects but physical attacks it basically follows a path could break your shield your armour then even helmet on one unlucky attack. |
Dragon Masters 3/3/2012 9:35:41 PM | I can understand multiple if not all items being lost due to a magical attack. I was not aware that multiple items could be lost in one melee attack with such a low damage done.
Does the attack % have to be above the defense, or below? I dont think it was an issue here, since the beans are probably nothing more then decoration, but I have hit on rolls that I believe should have missed. |
Legion 3/4/2012 9:11:22 AM | The truth lies a bit between Dragon Master's and Clan Grey's responses. On a magic attack you are both correct: there is no limit to what may break. On a physical attack, Clan Grey has is almost right. The attack does follow a "path" of sorts, always starting with the shield. The shield can break, then the armor on the location that was hit can also break (such as the beans on a string, in this example).
A single physical attack cannot break armor covering two separate locations such as armor and helmet as Clan Grey suggests. However it can break non-armor items on the location hit such as rings (hand hits), bracelets (arm hits), or potions (waist hits). Note that the armor needn't be destroyed for this to occur. For instance an attack might hit the hand and break a ring even if the glove that covered it survives the attack. |
Dark Realm 3/5/2012 7:28:02 PM | (3) a large fuzzy spider [52% d3 : teeth] jabs Jy's arm for 2 damage.
Jy has been infected with poison (1).
Jy has been killed.
which im fine with...if the spiders in question did not jump OVER the group blocking the passage to get to him... |
Sardonic 3/5/2012 8:49:38 PM | Thats a common thing if the spider could see the back group and not the front |
Dragon Masters 3/6/2012 1:00:42 AM | So im not the only one that has wondered how a monster goes thru a group or 2 to hit someone in a third group, but yet never leave the front of the first group.
I had figured that a group between a natural weapon monster and the person he is attacking should put them outside the reach of that weapon, in this cast, teeth.
Or do these monsters have false teeth that can be fired out, bite, then return in the same round?
|
3/7/2012 7:51:30 AM | i am also curious about that. My characters cannot move THROUGH one enemy to get to, say, the wizard that is wiping me out with lightning, so why do the same movement rules not apply to monsters? Randy, Explain? Change? |
Canuckistan 3/7/2012 6:35:13 PM | perhaps the spider is spinning the web out with teeth attached to hit the next group?? I have found the only way to have a sick character be safe is to move around a corner from the fight or more spaces back from the fight so they are not touching the combat area |
3/7/2012 9:13:36 PM | of course, considering the explicit warning and intro to the game, the answer to all these questions is probably "cause this s#%t is hard!" |
Sardonic 3/7/2012 10:26:58 PM | lol, agreed |
Dark Realm 3/8/2012 2:30:28 AM | lol yeah,,, amd i guess the spider in question was one from the movie 'eight legged freaks" and could jump :P |
Sardonic 3/9/2012 3:03:56 AM | Well,I neglected to get the report, but Mistborns uber traders came along on one of my dangerous lvl20s......I am not doing any more multis for a while:( |
Dark Realm 3/9/2012 5:39:46 PM | (11) Ja attacks the wrong target by mistake.
(11) Ja [59% d7 : long bow] hits Ja's torso for 6 damage.
boom arang arrows strike again! |
Dragon Masters 3/11/2012 4:42:47 PM | Have you had an adventure where you lost an item every round of combat? Just wondering if its just my luck. |
Sardonic 3/11/2012 7:24:18 PM | I have, I have also broken a 3 stage weapon in back to back rounds more times than I can count. |
Dark Realm 3/11/2012 8:56:30 PM | yup and yup and yup but ive also noticed some guys have had equipment for so long without breaking im almost ready to report it as a bug...almost ready...randy please ignore that ;) |
Dragon Masters 3/11/2012 9:30:13 PM | (8) melee fighter 1 attacks the wrong target by mistake.
(8) melee fighter 1 [56% d7 : wooden long sword] nicks melee now's arm for 4 damage.
(8) melee now's twine bracelet has been destroyed.
(8) melee now's twine bracelet has been destroyed.
Does 2 seperate bracelets count as 2 armor locations? |
Dragon Masters 3/12/2012 9:44:55 AM | Ive also noticed the opposite grey. I have one person that seems to break a weapon once every other combat round, and more then a few times, he swung it only once during an adventure. Is this common, or do i just have a character i should delete before he kills the party? |
Dark Realm 3/12/2012 11:37:08 AM | it does happen and ive mentioned it to randy ...um numerous times...but he has the total data on everything as says things are working as they should some items will break very frequently. myabe if we had some examples on how frequent these breaks should occur with the more fragile items it would help our frustration level....like a wood sword...swing a broom as hard as you can against a tree im pretty sure it would break every time wood sword should last a little longer and probably does..on average.. |
Dragon Masters 3/12/2012 4:37:21 PM | was asking if the bracelets are considered 2 seperate armor locations. If they are, then he has an bug in the program. If they arent, it would be nice to know as well.
While on the subject, how many items can be broken in one melee swing? |
Dark Realm 3/13/2012 3:02:55 PM | unsure but i think there would be a chance on a arm hit to damage a bracelet i think it would be 2 or up to 3 items? potentially break on a melee swing...shield..armour at location and item on more specific part... shield-arm armour-bracelet... shield-glove-ring...or maybe its even possible...your weapon then shield then glove then ring... |
Dragon Masters 3/13/2012 11:20:04 PM | The thing in question was destroying 2 bracelets in one shot on the last one. I want to know if bracelets are considered one location, of if each bracelet is an armor location itself. I understand that it can destroy a ring, but not the glove on that hand. I am thinking that one bracelet per arm is how the game is set up. So to get 2 bracelets, you would have to hit both arms at once. |
Dark Realm 3/14/2012 12:48:17 AM | ok that does sound like its set as 1 location then and probably shouldnt be...... |
Dragon Masters 3/14/2012 11:41:49 PM | they were junk bracelets, but would hate someone to lose some good ones due to an oversight like that. |
3/16/2012 4:54:22 PM | Did you really have to program it so a character has 1 hit point when created? Didnt even see if they would commit suicide on the first outing. Just dismissed them. |
Dark Realm 3/16/2012 6:47:41 PM | yeah over time had alot of those...1 HP... 1 strength...even had guy with 0 strength...1 con shaman ...actually have him at level 3 now...took alot of patience and careful adventuring
i would bring those useless guys out on adventure if you have room or as simple cannon fodder...someone hits them its one less hit on guys you want to keep... |
Dragon Masters 3/21/2012 11:15:21 PM | A note to anyone that reads this. Found out the hard way that when an item gets damaged, and the game says someone will fix it, you need to kill the monster that caused the damage. Found out the hard way that it will not if you dont kill the monster. Walking away from it will leave the item in the damaged form. |
Dragon Masters 3/22/2012 10:35:44 AM | Are monsters supposed to skip groups? I had one group around a corner from one set of monsters, and another group further back that was in sight of the monsters. The monster showed up 3 spaces past the group that was around the corner and one space from the sighted group. |
Sardonic 4/3/2012 2:36:39 PM | (20) a black demon [71% d9 : claws] cuts Angry Mage's head for 5 damage.
Angry Mage has been weakened (-1 strength)
Derlprie tries to flee [54%]. Derlprie runs away, and will receive no experience from this adventure.

(4) Shair [d5: fire burst] hits Angry Mage for 3 damage.
Angry Mage has been killed.
|
Dragon Masters 4/6/2012 1:03:03 PM | (16) an imp [71% d10 : claws] slashes melee 8's head for 10 damage.
What is the range of damage for claws? I know this monster had +5 damage, but thought they were like 1 or 2 points normally. The creature hit the same character for 5 more points in the same round and killed them. |
Canuckistan 4/13/2012 2:59:08 PM | and another wizard suicides while at almost full health!
(7) Groo attacks the wrong target by mistake.
(7) Groo [59% d4 : knife (family heirloom)] jabs Groo's head for 4 damage.
(7) Groo has stunned Groo for 1 turn.
(7) Groo's cloth headband has been destroyed.
Groo has been killed. |
Dark Realm 4/23/2012 2:52:57 PM | Sy-THE CRAFTER casts minor repair on GREY MAGI's small knife +1 [19.6% chance] and successfully repairs it.
on the 23rd try... wooo :) |
Dark Realm 4/28/2012 5:11:38 AM | (7) --GREY WIZARD--'s arcane rune staff has been damaged.
ttppphhhtttt |
Dragon Masters 5/11/2012 11:20:05 AM | I see the evil broken item beast has awakened again. Seems Im losing an item every 3 times I get hit lately. Was nice for a while where things broke like once every 2 or 3 adventures, not rounds. |
Dark Realm 5/11/2012 5:23:45 PM | (2) a hobgoblin shaman [d10: lightning shock] hits GREY MAGI II for 8 damage.
(2) GREY MAGI II's poisoned dagger +1 has been damaged.
(2) GREY MAGI II's black demon charm has been destroyed.
(2) GREY MAGI II's foul-smelling liquid has been destroyed.
and this grouping of items destroyed occurs ...how...riccochet? |
Canuckistan 5/11/2012 6:10:33 PM | c'mon Clan Grey - lightning travels the whole body and shoots out everywhere so of course it will damage/break random items everywhere (especially metal and liquid items) :) |
Dark Realm 5/11/2012 6:40:45 PM | ok ok you got me there but now hes going to code that in everywhere :P |
Dragon Masters 5/12/2012 1:46:06 PM | technically almost all elemental effects immerse the body fully, though a few are only at one point. Wonder if he will add in items that can be recharged by spells/effects like this? Hammer of lightning bolts with x charges.. absorbs electric attacks to recharge.. really be nasty if the creatures had that ability. |
Sardonic 5/24/2012 6:51:23 AM | (17) Ranenoabe [71% d60 : broad sword] skewers Ranenoabe's head for 29 damage.
The only thing he did right this run was not hit for full damage. Sheesh.
|
9/3/2012 9:49:36 PM | (7) archer 2 attacks the wrong target by mistake.
(7) archer 2 [56% d6 : old maple bow (family heirloom)] hits gladiator 2's neck for 6 damage.
What good is an archer when the only thing they can hit is a party member? |
Dark Realm 9/3/2012 10:39:07 PM | my favourite is when they shoot themselves in the head :P |
9/7/2012 10:43:42 PM | (4) magic crafter [fix] fails to repair (NaN% chance) tank 1's crystal two handed club.
Is this supposed to be no chance? |
9/7/2012 10:53:43 PM | Is this really the way things go? 6) tank 1 attacks the wrong target by mistake.
(6) tank 1 [72% d18 : crystal two handed club] pounds archer 1's head for 12 damage.
(6) tank 1's crystal two handed club has been destroyed.
(6) archer 1's blood-soaked headband has been destroyed.
archer 1 has been killed.
turn 2 4) gladiator 2 attacks the wrong target by mistake.
(4) gladiator 2 [48% d5 : crude short spear] jabs fighter 7's leg for 4 damage.
A couple of rounds later... (1) gladiator 1's small straw shield has been destroyed.
2 more rounds (7) a restless bones [35% d7 : crude heavy spear] stabs gladiator 2's foot for 6 damage.
(7) gladiator 2's wicker shield has been destroyed.
(7) a kobold [54% d4 : dirk] jabs fighter 1's torso for 2 damage.
(7) fighter 1's pitiful humanoid breastplate has been destroyed.
on top of all this, had a character target 2 of my party, and never did any damage to the enemies. Sheesh. |
