Legion I think you need to look at this, since lower level characters are more numberous they are probably buying the cheapest stuff more often which seems to be driving up prices dramatically. I am seeing a 100-300% increase in items.

thick winter hat is selling below base value at 25...

I looked at those armor prices in a lot of detail for a while here, and I concluded that they seem good to me. What we are seeing is the player-driven market starting to set popular item values according to demand rather than some abstract calculation.

To illustrate this, please look at these two items with virtually identical base value (91 vs 95):

Leather cuirass (14%D, -1%A, -0.2s, 15dur)
Heavy quilted tabbard (14%D, -1%A, -1.0s, 32dur, PROwaist)

Obviously on paper the heavy quilted tabbard is superior. The attack and defense are identical, but the tabbard covers a second location (waist) as well AND it will last more than twice as long due to 32 vs 15 durability. The only thing going for the cuirass is the faster speed, but when you consider that the tabbard will give much better protection (PROwaist) for half the cost (since you will have to buy 2+ cuirasses over the lifespan of 1 tabbard) you can see why the tabbard has the slightly higher base value.

But what is interesting here is that the leather cuirass has been bid up to just over 2x base value! Obviously people are thinking they must have the extra 0.8 speed even if it covers less area and needs replacing twice as often. That shows me that either (1) the players are overpaying for the cuirass right now or, more likely, (2) I misunderstood the power of an extra point of speed and people will gladly pay double for it.

If the leather cuirass is really that much better then it should be priced higher and the base value is just plain wrong. The fact that other armors in that price range are sitting at or below base value indicates that the market is working correctly and players are setting prices based on demand. Interestingly, another armor in that general price range (126 for sturdy hemp armor) is selling at a decent discount right now and it has 0 speed modifier. I guess the poor defense (5%) makes it really unattractive.

The boiled leather breastplate, like all the "hard leather" items, has obviously always been priced really really badly (too low) and everyone has always loved them because of it. Time will tell if the new price (429 currently) is high enough or if people actually find it better than some of the more costly alternatives.

I'm sorry I didn't have better news for you. On those three items in particular, I think it looks like everything looks acceptable. We probably need a few more armor options in the 5-10% defense range to fill out the 100-cost section a little better. Right now there isn't much available between the cheap 2-3% stuff and the expensive 10%+ stuff. I'll try to add a few soon.

Legion thanks for explantion but I think I didn't make my point clear. New characters can not afford the "lower" level armors due to price and can't get the higher level armor cause of stat limitations. For example yes people can get heavy quilted tabbard but at the risk of getting negative speed. While I know you run characters with negative speed it think it counter intuitive for most players.

Guess thats part of my problem. I dont buy items for new characters. I use what I find, and on a rare occasion, replace things from the market if I got the funds.

On the flip side, it is nice to get some money out of the low end items when found so it isnt all that bad. Getting 2 coins from the humanoid breastplate helps a little. I think most items should give 1 coin when sold.

On a side note. Is there a way to drop items while in an adventure? Not unequip, but actually remove it from inventory.

I have one guy who collects footwear. His name is Vernon. He's not allowed to ever drop those items once he finds them, because he is a hoarder specializing in shoes. He has sturdy shoes, sandals, boots, and socks. I had another guy who used to collect dead rats. His name was Collects Dead Rats. The problem is that when item weights were introduced his rat collection weighed like 4000 pounds and he couldn't move anymore because of the weight of his collection. But that is a small price to pay for pursuing your passion, as anyone who collects dead rats in real life will attest. In fact, when the bodies from the ill-fated Scott expedition to the South Pole were found, it was discovered that they had been hauling several hundred pounds of geological samples when they died of starvation, cold, and exhaustion a few miles from their resupply. I think this was a very similar phenomenon to that experienced by Vernon and Collects Dead Rats, except that it is much stupider to collect rocks since you can't wear them or eat them. Anyway, my point is that there is not a way to drop items in MW, because that would be too much of a temptation for hoarders and also would be unrealistic, as the Scott expedition demonstrates, because true adventurers never put anything down once they pick it up.
