5 bucks for a months member ship and well I'd get suckered in alot more often.
Would also increase my odds of getting someone to try the game. 20 bucks for 3 months is a pretty large turn off for all. |
Legion 8/25/2013 7:37:59 PM | Thats a good point. I actually don't play any of the subscription online games anymore so I don't have a great sense of what people are charging for whatever is popular these days. But there should definitely be a monthly option. $20/3 would be a bit under $7 a month, but there should be a lower rate for paying for 3 months at a time, so that would make a single month be $8. If that sounds reasonable, let me know and I'll set it up. |
Legion 8/25/2013 7:41:43 PM | I should probably add some other kind of bonus too, like get a free high-gold recruit with it or something, so there is more instant gratification in addition to the benefit of better character development. |
8/26/2013 6:37:59 PM | Well 8 is prolly low enough for me to partake at times. Not sure what kind of luck you'd have with other people .
Most games have went to a Free to play method with transactions making the money. While I know it's not officially a subscription on this game it seems pretty close.
Id say from personal experience you'd have better luck with a 5 dollar price point if you
want sub like subscriptions and micro transactions like a good high gold recruit for a small fee and things like that.
My 2 cents of course |
Legion 8/28/2013 4:48:13 PM | I appreciate your input, thanks for the reply. I'll go ahead and add a $8 option on the membership page, or in the meantime if you send $8 via paypal (use either link, just change the amount) I'll know what its for.
For what it's worth, I think you are exactly right on both counts. I think $5/month would be attractive to more people than $8, but I'm not going to change that stuff around unless some day I really make some big overhaul regarding costs and awards/bonuses and what not. Also it is a fact that the way to make the most money would be with what you call micro transactions. No subs (everyone gets double skill points for free) but let the players buy credits cheaply, which can be exchanged a few at a time for better recruits, cool/unique items, resurrections, or whatever. I am avoiding this on principle, since I set out to intentionally design a game where the skill of the player matters more than the size of the wallet. |
Legion 9/3/2013 3:46:31 PM | Ok ... so I thought more about what you suggested Stdians, and I think i came up with a good solution. On the membership page there is now a third option, for $5, which is a limited one month membership. It is limited in the sense that it only gives the double skill points up to and including level 3 characters. I figure this is a great option for people who are just playing casually and don't want to commit to 3+ months of membership. But if you get some guys to level 4 (or higher) chances are you're already serious about the game and in that case the $20 seems reasonable to me. |
