Legion 5/24/2010 3:56:30 PM | I'm curious .. have you ever thought that any changes that made a game more challenging also made it more fun? Or would you rather everything be really easy? It is starting to look like it might be the latter, which is unfortunate since I am deliberately developing Mythic Warfare to be a very challenging game.
Unfortunately, I think you might have misjudged the math on this one. This change makes curing poison more beneficial than under the previous life magic rules.
You used to be able to cure one point of poison for 7sp, compared to a minor heal at 4sp. So, in other words, each point of poison magically cured was "worth" 1.75 minor heals. That works out to 5.25 hp, on average, that you could have healed instead of curing 1 point of poison.
Now, you can cure 1-2 points of poison (an average of 1.5 points) for the cost of 2.5 minor heal spells. Or, per point of poison cured, you're looking at an average cost of 1.67 minor heals. That works out to 5.00 hp, on average, that you could have healed instead of curing 1 point of poison.
So my point is, you're actually getting cheaper cures than before when you look at the amount of hp you could have healed for the same sp cost, which is obviously the only sensible way to measure whether its better to cure the poison itself vs. instead heal the damage it inflicts once it runs its course. If the total length of infection is 5 turns its a wash. If you'll be infected more than 5 turns, cure it. If less, ignore it and then heal the damage. Of course you don't always know how long it will last (though with high poison values you can be pretty sure it'll be a lot more than just 5 turns!), and this isn't even considering that the cure poison spell reduces all active poison effects by the same amount, so multiple infections obviously changes the math in favor of curing.
These numbers are assuming a caster with a skill level of 1, using the least effective spells. Both healing and poison-curing become more sp-effecient as you move to the more powerful spells. |
Legion 5/24/2010 4:01:49 PM | Oh, and by the way, for just 50 coins you can get a cure poison potion. I know that pretty much all my characters carry these (or the better versions) at all times as soon as they can afford to. Its always a great backup in case your group does not have (or runs out) of life magic. |
