Wow these percentages took a big hit. Seems distance away and initative don't mean as much anymore to the escape pecentage. Now we have to have someone in the party with illusion spells Randy? Maybe give low level chars a boost?

i thought that it was already hard enough to run- survivability was doing just fine....:)

The idea was to boost running chances not cripple them. Can you give me some specific percentages and which character and what monsters you were facing? I'm surprised you're seeing such a hit. It is definately much easier to run from large groups than it used to be.

An average level 3 character running from a group of "several" monsters should have around a 35% per turn (without magic) to get away. So in two rounds of fleeing (which is often as the monsters are closing) over half the group should get away (~58%). High str/dex characters will have a better chance than this, low str/dex a worse chance. Of course a good level 3+ group (certainly by level 4+) will often have a fog of escape spell available, which will help substantially.

A low str/dex level 1 character can see chances as low as 25% or so per turn, where previously he may have been in the 30-35% range against small monster groups, so yes there can be scenarios where some characters have more trouble now -- although against large groups it will always be easier now and that is when most fleeing occurs. Perhaps I'll add some more newbie items with the escape or alarm ability to help low str/dex characters at the lowest level.

Follow up:

I did adjust the forumla once again, which now weighs the character level much less. The result: low level characters just got a boost (+9% at level 1) and high level characters will not get as much help fleeing as before.

thanks for the detailed explanation Legion- as always you go out of your way to give the players the actual numbers to show the "how" something is calc'd I appreciate that :)
