Lost level 6 char due do bad luck and spells not being cast during a round. If the character has speed >0 why would spells not be cast?

There are many ways this can happen. Most are due to effects that occur in the round prior to the character's scheduled action. For example, if you get hit by fear, spook, daze, charm, paralyze or probably others I'm not remembering off the top of my head.

If you moved the current turn you can lose your actions, from either group or individual movement. Even moving 1 square could cause loss of an action on most characters. This might be the most common, actually.

Weapon breaks can also cause action loss in certain cases.

There can even be issues with rounding. For example your speed might show as "0" which would mean no loss of turn, but if it is actually -0.3 for instance you could, infrequently, still lose an action. If the zero displayed is black you're ok, if its red, there is always a chance for lost actions.

Another way would be if you had a target group set that is not in LOS. For example you might have set a caster (or fighter for that matter) to hit the demons in case they come around the corner, but you don't wish to waste the spell (or kill the monster perhaps) on any other group since you're sitting on one last fatigued brigand or something to buffer you from advances. Then an ogre sneaks up behind you but no one attacks, because you were specifically telling the character to ONLY attack the dragons that turn. I'll often forget to pick "auto select" after camping out for a certain target that fails to appear. I bet this is the way that I lose actions unintended the most.

There can be other reasons too, such as an item breaking that makes the action impossible (you cannot drink a broken potion, or cast a spell if you lost a +sp item or +skill item that renders the spell uncastable).

There are probably other reasons I'm forgetting too, the game has gotten pretty complex. Perhaps he was just killed before it was his turn to act. Without the screenshot and/or copy of the turn log its hard to give you a precise answer.

yeah i learned that the hard way to moving then trying to act..getting hit and stunned... fatigue built up and just couldnt act...though did miss several flee attempts...plus i knew i should have acted earlier..tried just one more 'continue' in hopes of something extra good... now my guys get a paper cut and im running..

Ok it was the movement that did him in. tested it later. You would think that I would have known about that. well that and only getting 2 hp from a cure serious wounds spell. Situation, i thought had killed everything and tasted pools, one was bad poision level. tried to run for exit while casting spells, spells not casting so I kept them moving max hopins spells would cast. when it did only got 2 HP and not enough to keep him alive. OH well once again my star spell caster bites the dust.
