When you click "next day" everyone has a chance of recovering HP. This chance is based on 3 things:

1. Maximum character HP. Consider a character with a max 10 hp, who is down to 5. This could be looked at as "half dead" and such a serious wound will normally take many, many days to heal fully. It will, in fact, take the exact same amount of time to heal as a 100 hp character who is missing 50 hp of damage. On the other hand, a 100 hp character missing the same -5 hp as the first example is not "half dead" but rather only 5% injured, and such a minor wound will normally heal in just a few days.

2. Wound severity. Not all hp are equal. If the character still has "green" hp, they heal relatively quickly since the wounds may be nothing more than cuts and bruises. By "yellow" hp, the wounds become more severe and "yellow" hp heal at a significantly slower rate. Once the person has healed "up to green" his healing will accelerate to the green level. Similarly "orange" wounds are broken bones, dislocations, deep and infected punctures, or other such injuries that can easily take weeks or longer to heal up to yellow status. And of course, if your character is showing "red" hp, he has very nearly died and may have massive internal injuries and shattered bones or joints that can easily take months to heal to orange. So basically, as your hp climb from 1 to your maximum, the chances of healing each day also increase.

3. Constitution. Constitution directly affects healing rate. A character with a constitution of 16 for example will have exactly twice the healing chances that a character with a constitution of 8 will have.

The only effective way of healing is to get a character, often a cleric, with the magic: life skill to cast healing spells. By default, any unused healing spells will automatically be cast every daychange by any character with the ability. This "day-change healing" will automatically focus on red wounds first, then orange, then yellow, then green, in order to maximize natural healing rates.

Growing a clan without a healer is possible but extremely difficult (and expensive if you have to rely on buying healing potions each adventure). Initially you will probably find that you want 1 healer for every 4 or 5 characters or so, and maybe even more. Getting started in MW is really tough and don't be discouraged if your clan dies off and restarts many times before you recruit enough healers early enough in your clan's life to sustain a profitable number of adventures every day.

Good luck, I hope this helps, and let me know if I can clarify anything here.
