11/16/2009 1:33:01 PM | From talking with randy, there are at least a couple of different theories. His is to try get as many to lvl 2 as he can. This is helpful as you have lots of guys, however I just looked at my guys, and while i have far less, they are all very strong. Out of each recuiting lot, i MAY get 1 guy to lvl 2. Other than my 19/8 Barb (with HUGE HP) i have nothing with dex under 15. Anyone else do it differently? |
Snorri 11/16/2009 3:36:42 PM | I think we take a hybrid approach. We used to keep basically everyone, and ended up with some serious assclowns. In fact, I think one of them was named Assclown. Lately I've started being a little more selective, which pretty much means I'm more reckless with the assclowns and much more protective of the promising recruits. Of course, I still end up killing off a lot of promising recruits through impatience, stupidity, and back luck. And every so often one of the assclowns turns out to be an expert fireballer who has lvl 8 fire spell skill at lvl 4, despite a 13 IQ... so I do hate to kill a guy until I've at least seen what he/she is capable of.

Legion 11/17/2009 12:54:53 PM | I agree with Snorri. Sometimes we'll be a little more reckless with people of lesser intelligence (and to some extent charisma and strength). But, as pointed out, there is no way to tell from initial attributes who will end up being that one elusive clan member who can effortlessly run up to level 10 or beyond in a critical skill area. Accordingly, I will to give everyone a fighting chance.
For instance, Treerci the wizard began with no skills and a 5 dexterity. But it turns out dexterity is his specialty, and he increases it twice every time he levels now. He is still dabbling in magic trying to find his niche, but despite his failings (int started at 14 too ... 16 now) I have no doubt he will become one of my best wizards ever (39 hp at level 4.... 19 constitution!). Anyway, to make a long story short, what looks like a weakness may not matter if it is cheaply corrected. And once you find their strength (Treerci is still searching) anyone can become a rock star. |
WarWorld 12/11/2009 12:30:27 PM | Legion,
characters stats go up when they level without spending skill points? |
Legion 12/11/2009 1:08:59 PM | No, you need to spend skill points. But sometimes skills are so cheap that you can count on being able to raise it every level, even multiple times.

WarWorld 2/2/2010 8:44:02 AM | Yeah but it is hit or miss. My method is take a spell caster and a combat guy and run them through 0 level adventures till they get 2 second level. If they make it that far then then may have the goods to keep going. Only got to level 3 so far so I cna't say for sure. |
9/23/2010 3:35:01 PM | i work with whatever i get. 4 hp, single digit attributs but 8 SP and magic life 1 cleric is a decent healer after each D/C
the rest... i tend to lvl fighters/grunts and use wizzards as fodder. if they do lv up great. if they don't, they at least did their job |
