Now, I would have posted this in general, but I didnt wanna overtake the voting reminder. Call me 4 beers in, call me really loving the game, they both work. I would like a way to give Legion a little something something from time to time to say thanks, but I would hate to see it get out of control. Heres what I see.

Every rl month, each clan has the option of buying up to 10 skill points for 3 characters.(I would almost say each characters can only do this 3 times a year)The catch is, the 3 characters have to be chosen before the start of the next month, be it 28 days, or 2 hours. This should be set up like this to not only temper gains, but to reward those of us who truly love the game, not those who wanna be a "badass".

Now, if I am infact just drunk - 5th beer by the end of this - then dont be afraid to say so, and I will just re-up my membership. But that seems crazy with the time I have left.

By the way, I know the game intentionally killed Gandalf, I just want it to admit it ;P

Edit: I think each skillpoint should cost 50cents.

You guys should name them something less conspicuous. Loose Bowels is still going strong. Naming them "Merlin" or "Gandalf" is just asking for it.

you could always send in money without expecting anything back. Im sure he would enjoy that alot.

There are a few options that could be put in for extra funds, like maybe a reroll for a character that just went up a level and go a whole 2 hit points. X money would allow a reroll of the hit points, and then you are stuck with the result even if it is only 1 or 2 points. Buying skill points sounds interesting, but kinda think it leads to he who has the money shall have skills beyond everyone else. Maybe a little more discussion would change that thought.

In the talks we had early on he has resisted anything more then the subscriptions for bonus skill points. Some of us have tried offering money for resurrections for coding in new classes etc.. but i think hes trying to maintain as much of a balance for those who donate and those play for free and keep the playability fair and challenging.. i like his stance on this even though he could make some extra beer money.. :P I have thought of something he might accept in the buying skill point idea..but i dont know if we would like it hehe...can buy skill points but only for the charcters with the lowest CV or lowest skill points in clan. :)

How about something like buying armor sets for characters? A starter pack for a brand new character sort of thing. Other ideas would be to get an archer a missle weapon and some ammo.. wow that would be nice.

Or a single character that has no stat below 10 for x price. Only allow 1 per real year or something like it.

How about the ability to buy a hp potion for the character that has less then 3 hp, usable only for that character?

I can see an issue if there is reserves of donation moneys, since the would start the give out extra for more then x amount, or even as a prize. This is something that doesnt need to be even started.

Many of these ideas would be workable in some form. There are a few reasons I don't want to open this can of worms.

It could gives unfair advantages to players who spend money. In a game like this that might not matter much, but in the future there will be a player-vs-player element involved (at least in some capacity -- likely almost entirely voluntary) and it would lead to resentment if some players were bested by an opponent who had an unfair advantage.

It could also start to influence game development in multiple ways. On the one hand I could see bowing to pressure (even slight, such as this thread) to add this and that as paid bonuses. On the other hand there would eventually (despite all our best intentions) be a sense of entitlement to those things that were paid for. For example I am about to embark on a major overhaul of the entire magic system, and it will impact most spell-casters who have been cultivated under the existing rules -- generally to their severe detriment. I don't mind doing this, or even (god forbid) making a critical change that required in the worst case (hard to envision this, to be fair) deleting all characters. But if people had paid money for certain skills, items, or other bonuses, there would be a lot of pressure (and rightly so) to avoid such wholesale changes.

My final two motives are somewhat more esoteric. This game is supposed to be fun to play and (more importantly for me) fun to develop. I would love to see it paying for its own internet connection (a business-class connection with a static IP address here is absurdly expensive, imo) or even turning a profit, but that is not a priority. For me, this project would be less fun if I was worrying about monetizing it; I don't want to feel beholden to the game more than I already do. And secondly I think its just a better game if everyone is playing with a single set of rules. Well, two sets -- the "real" rules for members and the "sampler" rules for newbies -- that much I am comfortable with.

Who knows what the future will bring. I doubt this game will ever be huge, but I could see it handling a few thousand players a day without any difficulty. Once it is bigger, more complex, and less likely to undergo sweeping changes there may come a time when a "gold membership" option or something would make sense with a suite of fun but innocuous bonuses to thank generous players. But at this point I like keeping it simple and leaving the obligations and complications of paid rewards out of the game. The best way any of you can help Mythic Warfare at this point is by recruiting new players. Tell your friends about it, post to a forum or on facebook, hang up a flyer on a bulletin board, or simply vote at mpogd or other game-of-the-month polls. I thank all of you for your support and encouragement; that fact that you guys are here every day having fun with this is my primary motivation to keep expanding the game.

Its easy to get around the feeling obligated to those that buy items. The game itself is set up to lose what ever you have including the characters. Now if people donate, and think that is gonna change, well that is like buying a can of soda and expecting it to never run out.

The game can be huge, but might require a different path then what you plan for it. The key is how much fun it is for all. Problem with being huge is all the headaches that come with it, like the hackers, and such.
