WarWorld 12/2/2012 9:26:11 AM | Check characters that have spears as a weapon. Might be able to get better to hit using another weapon even if yo don't have skill in it. ie Hatchet.
What ever level you are used to running I recommend you drop it down at least 1 level.
Carry less back up weapons/armor weight is a killer these days. |
Legion 12/2/2012 10:10:54 AM | This is very good advice. Spears used to be a "fast" weapon and are now one of the slowest. Knives and swords will be the new "fast" weapons, and 2h swords and staves will be right behind them.
Spears will be the "cheap" weapons that give the most damage for the price but they are now very slow, particularly for characters without exceptional strength. And for what its worth, axes are going to be slow too (just not as slow as spears) so while a hatchet is a nice alternative today, it might not be your final solution for slow characters.
But yes, as silver says, until you get reconfigured and more importantly, until this entire update is complete (including fighting styles at the very end) you should run easier adventures. |

Im sure more then a few went with skills in things that have now been changed to the point of being obsolete. Was gonna ask about buying and changing out to new equipment, but most people have more then enough funds to do so. |
WarWorld 12/2/2012 8:29:46 PM | going to guess no

Legion 12/2/2012 10:31:52 PM | One major driver of these changes is to make sure that every item, every skill, every attack mode and magical effect and every other factor has a standardized cost/benefit that makes all choices equally viable. While true parity is likely impossible to achieve I can absolutely assure you that no skill will anywhere close to obsolete.
If what you mean is, "i used to be able to buy a 70 coin heavy spear that was better than a 350 coin broadsword but now its worse" then you are illustrating my point well. That spear is probably a 46 coin heavy spear now and the broadsword cost 747, and yes, the spear is a lot worse than the sword now. But compare it to a 42 coin "crude small sword" and you'll see that they are arguably equal. That spear does more than twice the damage of that sword, with a higher durability, attack, and defense. But the sword is much faster, enough so to make up for the rest. So its a fair choice, as to which 42-46 coin weapon best suits that character.
If you have weapon skills learned, that will make the choice obvious, since the fighting style options for skilled characters will introduce a lot of tactical options to help you optimize your groups.
I would present a strong case stating that a lot of weapons and skills were obsolete before, but now they are finally all viable options. |
