Legion 3/5/2010 6:54:36 PM | Some people seem to think that using smaller groups is better because the speed of leveling offsets the additional dangers that a small group represents.
This is just plain wrong. The amount of experience points gained from an adventure is the same no matter how many characters are in the party. Lets say that over some amount of playing time you get 100 characters to second level. They require 3000 total experience points to get there. That will be the same number of adventures no matter what your group size. This is key. Using a small group will not reduce the total number of adventures required to generate any fixed number of second level characters.
In fact, using a smaller group will actually increase the number of adventures required to get 100 (or any number of) characters to second level. Why? Because smaller groups suffer higher casualty rates than larger groups, so any time spent getting those small groups halfway to second level is lost when they die. Larger groups will complete more adventures with less character deaths and accordingly reduce the total number of adventures required to reach your goal of 100 (for example) second level characters. |
